Overview

Maui County, HI adopted the following codes:

  • The International Building Code, 2006 edition. County of Maui, County Code, § 16.26B.100 (IBC adopted) with amendments at § 16.26B.
  • The International Residential Code, 2006 edition. County of Maui, County Code, § 16.08A (IRC adopted with amendments).
  • The International Energy Conservation Code, 2006 edition. County of Maui, County Code, § 16.16A (IECC adopted with amendments).

Residential Building Code

Hawaii adopted a statewide mandatory residential code that will control; however, local governments are free to make laws more strict (with some limitations).See PLRB, Hawaii Building Codes for more information on state level codes.

Existing buildings, meaning buildings that were built in accordance to code at the time of construction, typically merit extra consideration in a current updated code.
